  1. Practices whole body, active listening when listening to and learning music
  2. Listens to other musicians in the ensemble while playing and "locks in" accordingly
  3. Uses effective practicing techniques, such as "chunking," slower tempo, repetition
  4. Maintains steady beat while singing, moving, playing instruments
  5. Reproduces simple melodies, including proper pitches and rhythmic patterns, by ear
  6. Performs melodies, basslines, color parts and rhythm parts as a part of the ensemble
  7. Performs simple poly-rhythms
  8. Demonstrates an aural understanding of the 12-bar blues progression
  9. Improvises over a blues progression using the blues scale
  10. Reads chord charts fluently
  11. Composes simple, original melodies on a variety of instruments
  12. Composes original music comprised of multiple parts including melody, bassline, rhythm
