Center For Progressive Education Launches

Monday, June 27, 2016

This past school year marked the launch of the Center for Progressive Education at Presidio Hill School, a groundbreaking collaborative education program that builds on our school’s deep progressive roots and currently includes a unique teacher-apprentice program and library of progressive education resources. In partnership with the University of San Francisco, the CPE offers unique two-year apprenticeships to the next generation of progressive educators. These students work with mentor teachers at PHS and receive practical classroom training in progressive practices. During the school year, they also attend classes at USF to learn the theoretical aspects of good teaching. So far, the CPE has been an effective partnership that has supported not only these teachers in training, but also our children, who now have more teachers in their classrooms. Eventually, the program will benefit the community at large as we institute our goals for a lecture series, a summer workshop for progressive learning, and a book club on topics of mutual educational interest.
